Frohe Ostern!

Would you look at those feet!?!
Real rabbit, I swear.
His name's Herman.

We went to the Dorotheum on Friday, to pick up a few porcelain lindt rabbits (by Villeroy & Boch. J had intended to suprise me with one, but since I went with him there, I guess I... have to pretend I'm suprised when I see it later?

Naw.

The Dorotheum is actually an auction house, and according to themselves 'the leading auction house in Central Europe'. We went to the Palais Dorotheum, the branch located on the aptly named 'Dorotheergasse'.

This is a building of many floors, full of beautiful things

Lovely set of glasses

So we head upstairs. The store's been open for less than an hour so we were fairly certain we'd still get some rabbits. (They're 'limited edition'.)

Upstairs, a lady already leaving with her haul of rabbits

When we got there, we were suprised because there was already a pretty long line, of about 21 people. (J counted with his new 'obsession device', a hand clicker counter). Still, we waited our turn and successfully obtained our lindt rabbits. The rabbits are made by Villeroy and Boch, are out of porcelain, and coated in gold.

Success! :)

Lovely little porcelain bunnies

Now, what's so special about these rabbits, you may ask? As tradition goes, the Easter Bunny comes to give you presents on Easter Sunday, usually in the form of eggs. Usually chocolate or candy eggs, are given. Why eggs and rabbits? Well according to this guy...
"...the association of Easter, eggs, and rabbits dates back to the early Christian era, when the celebration of the Resurrection became conflated with traditional spring fertility rites. Eggs and rabbits, for obvious reasons, are fertility symbols of long standing. Indeed, in the eighth century, the Venerable Bede speculated that the word "Easter" was originally the name of an Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring/dawn/fertility (although this has been disputed)."
-- Cecil Adams "The Straight Dope"

So, one of the things that are also given on Easter Sunday are chocolate rabbits. And one of the widely recognized kind of chocolate rabbits is the lindt version, the gold rabbit, with a red ribbon around it's neck. They look like these:
Lindt Chocolate Bunnies!

We hatched a plan. We'd wrap up the porcelain rabbits and fool people by making them think they're chocolate! And then they break their teeth on them! Mu hoo ha hah!!

...well not really the breaking part, I guess.

Our trouble was, there seemed to be no place that would sell the chocolate bunnies of the proper size. (The porcelain bunnies are only about 1.5 inches tall.) We hovered around the Lindt Easter display in the DonauZentrum (a mall) trying to decide what to do.

This is the best part of the display in my opinion.

Bunny Mobile!

J said if he won that car in a contest, he'd turn it into a batmobile. Well actually he said the bunny ears would become Batman's pointy ears so I guess what he meant was he'd turn it into Batman's head.

Would you drive around in Batman's head? I know I would. If just to horrify the little children.

Luckily
(no, not Batman) Guy In Chef Outfit saved the day by giving out free tiny lindt chocolate bunnies! The perfect size! And we didn't have to pay anything!

So now we had to come up with the easter display! First thing we needed was a real easter bunny. And we thought, well who could possbily be a better easter bunny than...

GODZILLA!!!
I wouldn't want to be that chick right now...
Perfect!

It's was J's idea to give him bunny ears and make him hold the chick by the way.

The display would go up on Saturday, and on Sunday the charming little chocolate bunnies would be replaced by the equally charming, but very inedible gold bunnies from the Dorotheum!

Ta-daa!
And chaos follows.

Or so we hope.

Happy Easter! :)

That Godzilla bunny is bizarre! I laughed so hard. This whole escapade of yours sounded like fun. You're so lucky to have all these interesting things to do there. We did the usual easter egghunt in tagaytay. The "adult singles" were tasked with burying the kids eggs and the kids did the same for the oldies. They had a great time! I refrained from throwing the eggs in the pool this time! SusanD
